Marcel is a shopping bag made of Calais Lace inspired by a vegetable net. The lack of structure allows the bag to be folded to fit in a pocket or a handbag. The combination of Calais Lace and knitted Dixon thread is a way to combine the delicacy of the pattern with the elasticity of the garter stitch, which allows the bag to fit the shape of the content. The Calais Lace is strengthened with transparent silicone which shows the colours and shapes of the fruits and vegetables.

Marcel is the result of a collaboration between Product and Textile Design within the school ESAAT.

This team work aimed in using Calais lace for a given context: bike ridding. Inspired by a way of living focused on sustainability, the idea was to revisit the vegetable bag into a fashion accessory. The challenge was to combine a noble material with a popular practice. It was interesting to share in knowledge of each design section to get to that singular project.
