Caress

2019

This project is an answer of the call of projects launched by the British Artist Kaye Linwood whose work focuses on sensuality within food experience.

That carte blanche was launched as part of Co.LAB (Collaboratory Laboratory), an organisation concerned about the interdisciplinarity within creatives careers.

Caress glass reinvents the ritual of spirits testing by transforming it in an intimate moment. It was inspired by the ceremony of drinking as a couple. The glass encourages an intimate and sensual moment you can either experience alone or with a partner. Caress is designed for spirits that need to be warmed to ambient temperatures such as some types of Whiskeys or Cognacs, in order to enhance the flavors. Due to these reasons, the design takes advantage of body warming and heat conductor materials.

The use of two different materials create a duality in the user experience:

- The glass half of Caress evokes the standard shape of a Tulip Glass, which will influence the user in the way the object could be held. The transparency enhances the lightness of the product and highlights the colours of the amber spirit.

- The second half made of silicone conveys the warmth and softness of skin. The contrasting malleability of this material gives the user the opportunity to feel the liquid in their hand and mix it in an original way. The white silicone is serving as a neutral background to emphasize the shades of the spirit.

This design focuses on the cohabitation of two materials with different temperature, firmness, and grip. These two contrasting hemispheres offer the users to share diverging experiences
